Why this matters
What goes wrong over a long term
Subscription storage disappears when the card on file expires. Physical drives left in a home suffer heat and humidity, which is a real factor in Florida. Neither survives a term measured in years without someone actively maintaining it.

How this is insured
Drives are the category where the insured value and the real value diverge most absurdly. The hardware is worth very little and is trivially covered; the contents are usually not covered at all in any conventional policy. There is also a physical failure mode no insurer addresses: unpowered drives degrade, and a drive left in a humid Florida cupboard for a decade may be readable in the sense that it spins and unreadable in the sense that matters.

What happens to it in an estate
This is the category that most often defeats a personal representative. Florida's fiduciary access law can give a representative authority over digital assets and still leave them unable to act, because authority is not the same as having the password, the key or the passphrase. A drive in custody with no documented means of access is an object, not an asset. Where a client stores keys or seed material, the handover has to be planned in writing and in advance — it cannot be improvised afterwards.
Which box size fits
Drives and tape stack efficiently. A 3×10×24 handles most personal archives; business media rotation usually moves to a dedicated media vault arrangement.

- No. We take custody of physical media. We do not access contents.
