The case
Why counsel near the Miami-Dade Criminal Courthouse use custody storage
Property, when a client cannot manage it
The recurring problem for criminal defense practices is not the case file — it is the client's property while the client is unavailable. Jewelry, cash equivalents, documents and family items sit in a house or an apartment that nobody is now living in. Custody with a named authorized family member is a way to stop the secondary loss that so often follows the primary problem.
An inventory is the protection, for everyone
A signed written inventory at intake protects the client, the family and the firm in equal measure. It is what prevents the conversation two years later about what was and was not handed over. In this practice area that conversation is common enough that the paperwork is doing more work than the vault door.
Say the limits out loud
We are a commercial custody provider. We comply with valid subpoenas and court orders, we do not offer anonymity, and we will not hold property we are told is subject to a forfeiture claim or a court order. Counsel in this district ask that question early, and they are right to. The answer is the same before intake as after.
Access
Getting to the vault from the Miami-Dade Criminal Courthouse
From the Miami-Dade criminal courthouse the vault is a genuine drive north, not a hop — you are crossing county lines, and the honest advice is that a same-day round trip between a Miami calendar call and a Broward vault appointment is optimistic. Collection from the office is the workable pattern for Miami criminal practices. It is arranged by appointment, the vehicle is unmarked, and nothing about the visit reads to a building lobby as anything other than a courier.

Questions counsel ask
- Can a client's family deposit property while the client is in custody?
- Yes, where the family member is properly authorized — normally under a power of attorney or a written authorization the client signs. The authorization is what makes the arrangement clean. Without it, we are holding property for someone whose right to deposit it we cannot verify, and we will decline.
- Is anything here shielded from a court order?
- No. This is worth being blunt about, because it is occasionally assumed otherwise. Private custody is confidential from the general public. It is not privileged, it is not anonymous, and it does not resist a lawful order. Anyone selling you the opposite is selling you a problem.
- How far is the facility from the Miami-Dade Criminal Courthouse?
- About 40 minutes from the Miami-Dade Criminal Courthouse in normal traffic. We are at 3562 N Ocean Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, on the Galt Ocean Mile.
- Can you collect from my office instead of the client’s home?
- Yes. Low-profile armored collection is available throughout South Florida in unmarked vehicles. Many intakes run through counsel rather than through the client.
- How quickly can custody be arranged?
- Same week in most cases, and same day where a date is imminent. The limiting factor is usually the inventory, not the vault.
- What do you tell a court if asked?
- We comply with valid subpoenas and court orders. We tell counsel that before intake, not after. Nothing here is designed to conceal property from lawful process.
