Why counsel near the U.S. District Court, Miami use custody storage
International clients, domestic originals
Southern District federal work in Miami carries an unusual share of clients who do not live in the United States. That creates a specific problem: the executed originals are here, the client is not, and the client's own jurisdiction may have different rules about what an original even is. A documented custody arrangement with named domestic authorized parties is often the cleanest answer available.
Closing binders and the documents nobody re-signs
Corporate and commercial matters generate a small number of documents that genuinely cannot be recreated — executed originals, certificates, instruments with apostilles attached. They are usually stored wherever the closing happened. Moving that small set into documented custody is a low-effort, high-consequence piece of housekeeping that firms tend to do only after being burned.
Continuity when a matter outlives a firm
Federal matters run long. Firms merge, offices relocate, and file rooms get packed by people who were not there for the closing. Custody held with a third party under a named authorization is the version that survives all of that, because it does not depend on any particular office still existing in the same form.
Access
Getting to the vault from the U.S. District Court, Miami
The federal courthouse in downtown Miami is the furthest of the three district locations from the vault, and there is no point pretending the drive is short. For Miami federal practices the arrangement that works is scheduled collection and scheduled return, planned against the docket rather than against the day. Counsel who use us here typically deposit at the start of a matter and withdraw once, rather than treating the vault as a filing cabinet they visit.

Questions counsel ask
- Our client is overseas. Can they authorize access remotely?
- Authorization has to be documented, and for an overseas client that normally means a properly executed power of attorney rather than an email. We will tell you what we can accept before intake. The one thing we will not do is release property to someone whose authority we cannot verify on paper.
- Is the drive from Miami realistic for urgent retrieval?
- Not for same-day urgency, and we would rather say so. Plan retrieval a day ahead. If your practice genuinely needs same-hour access to originals, custody in Broward is the wrong arrangement for that particular document, whatever its other advantages.
- How far is the facility from the U.S. District Court, Miami?
- About 42 minutes from the U.S. District Court, Miami in normal traffic. We are at 3562 N Ocean Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, on the Galt Ocean Mile.
- Can you collect from my office instead of the client’s home?
- Yes. Low-profile armored collection is available throughout South Florida in unmarked vehicles. Many intakes run through counsel rather than through the client.
- How quickly can custody be arranged?
- Same week in most cases, and same day where a date is imminent. The limiting factor is usually the inventory, not the vault.
- What do you tell a court if asked?
- We comply with valid subpoenas and court orders. We tell counsel that before intake, not after. Nothing here is designed to conceal property from lawful process.
